K1.3b - Station for small-angle scattering (SAS)

Methods

  • Small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS)
  • Bragg scattering (WAXD)
  • EXAFS-spectroscopy
  • X-ray fluorescent analysis (XFA)

Station view

Fig. 1. The view of SAXS station
1 - Block of the beam formation, forms the radiation beam with necessary size and energy. The block is housed in the inert nitrogen atmosphere;
2 - Cryostat with the heat regulation 77-300K;
3 - Semi-conductor detector of high pure germanium for registration of the EXAFS-spectrum;
4 - Small angle scattering camera with 4 sample positions for different sample-detector distances;
5 - Block of detectors with local shielding containing scintillation and 1D-position-sensitive detectors.

Fig. 2. Block of the beam formation
1 - Beam position sensor is placed inside the vacuum channel, allows to control the vertical position of the SR-beam;
2 - Slits for defining the size of the beam with the step motor control;
3 - Monochromator for defining the radiation energy, silicon channel-cut crystal or two pyrolitic graphite crystals are used;
4 - Monitor for measuring the intensity of monochromatic beam by scattering on the organic membrane, scintillation counter is used for registration.

Research program

  • Reactor materials science:
    • Research of radiation damages in the reactor graphite.
